Hello!
I’ve been busy working out some stuff so unfortunately, this blog was a little neglected last week… but I’m glad to be back! This weekend, we suited the house up Christmas style, with shiny, sparkly knick knacks, lights galore (my family seem to have an affection for glitter during the festive season.. or maybe all the time really) and a fully decked out Christmas tree! I’ve still got a couple of festive DIY projects to get done and I’m excited to get started.
p/s Also, taste testing for Christmas baking, we take entertaining real serious in this house.
Hope you all had an awesome week and weekend!

Currently captivated by Erich and Amy McVey’s home, which was featured on Design*Sponge. I love the vintage details (knick knacks, dressers and so much more), that fridge (so charming.. and what a great way to display photos) and that rustic headboard, perfect balcony seating and those bright pops of colour (that coral wall colour is to die for). So beautiful and inspiring!
Be sure to read more and check out more photos over at Design*Sponge!

While we were in Canada, we hosted a little backyard soiree at Steve’s parent’s home to celebrate the summer (and of course, the Tracy children’s homecoming!). We had an awesome time catching up with our friends and family who joined us for the party – we ate good food, relished the good conversation and company, enjoyed beautiful weather, played a few games of extreme ladderball and capped it off with some good ol’ relaxing in front of the fire in the evening.
The family chipped in to make a huge variety of food & sweets; S made some delicious hors d’oeuvres and laid out a master spread for a drinks buffet and we served an easy bbq spread of chicken and salmon, along with black bean patties and a potato, a green & a quinoa salad. We even laid out a little “goodies tray” for the evening by the fire, including popcorn and stuff to make smores.
S and I spent the afternoon the day before making tissue poms in various sizes for decorations. She also made the cutest flower drink stirrers for the drinks buffet. Steve laid out the lights and we strung ribbon between them and then hung the poms. They were so pretty in the wind and in the twinkle of the night (Steve’s parents also said later they noticed the wind would sometimes hit the ribbons and make harp-like sounds… isn’t that amazing?). Steve also refashioned our wedding signs into hanging signs for the party!
It was a fantastic day! And with our summer wedding party the year before and this backyard soiree this year, we are thinking a summer celebration could well become an annual event. And that would be kind of spectacular, wouldn’t it?

Currently coveting these brilliant prints by Therese Sennerholt - I love the humour in some of them, the inspiration in others and the fine use of design and typography.
And oh, today I will be the best version of me. I like that.
p/s Love the music on her website.

Want an easy way to brighten up a room? These cute, colourful DIY paper flowers will definitely do the trick!
These were made as part of a short stop motion video we made for Steve’s mom for Mother’s Day. The best part is you can use recycled magazine or printed paper to make them! I think they would look so pretty as an alternative to fresh cut flowers for table arrangements at an eco-friendly wedding reception or party. You can also wrap them up with some twine or ribbon and give them away as a bouquet.
Here’s how they’re made:

Currently obsessed with the idea of outdoor movie nights – laying down sheets, propping up pillows, getting cosy under blankets and quilts on a cool summer night, sounds pretty perfect, doesn’t it? You could serve up some popcorn, some creamy popsicles, homemade nachos, hot chocolate or cool cocktails. I am definitely planning one for this summer when we’re up in Barrie… that’s if we can convince the in-laws to lend us their backyard!

Christmas, DIY, flowers, guestbook, holidays, reception, snowflakes, sugar cookies, Wedding, Weekend Snippets

Can’t believe how quickly this weekend came and went. I spent it finishing up christmas cookies (even though they took forever to ice, those snowflakes were kind of worth it, they are pretty darn pretty) and finishing last minute touches to our reception list. We bought the loose flowers on Friday evening from an array of stores along Thompson; cut & arranged them on Saturday afternoon just hours before the reception (I also learnt that apparently, I cannot walk by a bunch of peonies without buying them). Oh, and the reception – it was lovely. The weather was cool, the venue was quaint, the food was good and the company was all around awesome (also, we are all sugared out after a massive dessert buffet – pictures in a little, I promise!). Now, back to catching up on holiday to dos!

This weekend was a blur of activity between reception decor and Christmas baking for our packages – it was hard to catch our breaths and take a break. A. helped make the glitter candleholders (aren’t they pretty?), then we made favours, seating cards.. and somewhere in between, I tested out a braided bracelet and snacked on some Alexandra shui jing bao (crystal bun). We baked holiday cookies, candy canes, cut outs, pinwheels… and they are all waiting for some icing. I also baked some healthy breakfast cookies with oatmeal, bananas and a ton of fruits & nuts (no butter, sugar or eggs!).
Thankfully, things are starting to come together… there’s still a ton to do, but I’ll take any kind of progress I can get. T-5 days.

I love the idea of a DIY holiday (you probably didn’t need me to tell you that). It’s just that there’s so much wonder & charm going around during the holidays and having a hand in spreading that is the reason for making an advent calendar full of christmas activities to do with people you love, for putting all that effort buying or making and wrapping presents, for slaving over the stove or paying way too much attention to a turkey that has a name, or for spending hours crafting and personalizing pretty things – it’s so we can add a little to the magic that is the holidays and share it with people we love. So here’s a list of little DIY projects I’ve been thinking about putting on my holiday DIY list, have fun browsing!
