We knew from the beginning that we wanted our desserts be mostly handmade. Thankfully, Steve’s sister, S, and her man, T, are chefs by training and superstars in the kitchen. So they helped us out with baking & icing the cupcakes and the top tier cake (lemon vanilla and chocolate flavored) – we were totally working into the night with some midnight baking whilst everyone around was dancing to Irish music! The boy and his best man, R, baked the chocolate chip cookies, I made pie pops (filled with DIY jam) with the help of several of my girlfriends. Then, we supplemented with stacked powdered donuts (inspired by this) and pies (apple & mixed berry) from the supermarket… and fresh Ontario strawberries from Barrie Hill Farms!

We also made the cupcake stand from cake discs (from Bulk Barn) and plumbing pipes (from Home Depot! – I know, what an odd thing to use to build a cupcake stand, right?). I covered the pipes in some fabric with spray adhesive… and R helped to glue the discs onto the pipes for the final assembly. I made a little word garland that said “Love Sweet Love”, simply by cutting out letters free hand out of card stock and taping them onto a string of twine. For the cupcakes and cake, I made little heart decorations by punching hearts out of card stock, then taping them onto toothpicks. Then A. wrote the full list of desserts on my DIY chalkboard!

There you have it, a simple, handmade kind of dessert table :)
