Here are some Bali snippets like I promised!

We stayed our first night in Seminyak at the Royal Beach Seminyak – it’s pretty much just your regular run of the mill hotel, bonus being that it was right on the beach and a close enough walk to any of the clubs/bars that we were thinking of going to. But of course, having not planned ahead, our plans of crashing Ku De Ta or The Potatohead were dashed when we realized that both were closed all day to prepare for the New Year’s bash and that tickets were sold out days in advance (not that I was that willing to fork out $100 bucks for New Year’s party tickets anyway.. hah!).

So we settled in for a quick burger at Wah Wah (the vegetarian burger is pretty darn good). Then, spent some time at the beach watching the sun set and trying not to get swept up in the tide. After a late dinner, we went down to the beach for to ring in the New Year with a crazy fireworks display (the fireworks had already started at around 6pm and increased exponentially towards midnight). There were fireworks everywhere, every second, going off in every direction… it was ridiculous! I think it did work out for the best – being on the beach was crazy but also kind of chilled out, which is definitely my favourite way of celebrating New Years. And then of course, New Years came around a second time, the next morning when we skyped the family during their Halifax countdown (pirate hats and all).
