This weekend, most of the family was up in KL for a short trip, so Steve and I mostly had the house to ourselves. It was a nice change of pace to the usual, we have talked about how we miss the way we used to live on our own sometimes – living with family, like mostly everything, has its shares of ups and downs. But of course, we are grateful for where we are now and it’s where we choose to be at this point in our lives.

That said, we spent Saturday lazing around the neighbourhood, then into the kitchen to whip up a delicious dinner plate with salmon, vegetables and a side of my makeshift grain salad (couscous, quinoa, avocado, black beans, cilantro, lime juice, cherry tomatoes). I made us some simple cocktails (we were both shocked by how many ingredients your average cocktail has – none of which we owned!)  – palomas (grapefruit juice, lime juice, tequila and sprite) and gimlets (lime juice, vodka, soda water) – and baked a delicate little fallen souffle chocolate cake. A few of my girlfriends came over for dessert and wine after dinner and we chilled out into the wee hours of the morning.

Life’s pretty good sometimes, isn’t it?
