We started the evening off with a simple Chinese tea ceremony for our Singaporean relatives who weren’t able to fly over to Canada. Then, a sit down dinner with some awesome courses. We love that the reception was intimate and easy, people were walking around freely between and during courses, mingling and laughing with each other – that was totally the laid back atmosphere we were going for! We also left little packages for the kids, filled with disposable cameras, bubbles, balloons and other thingamajigs for them to have fun with.
A few more photos tomorrow! Also, reception details.

inBetween Christmas preparations, side projects and teaching, I am officially swamped this week… so I’ve prepared a few posts for your viewing pleasure while I go off to work on some other things! I realize that I never did post pictures from our little Singaporean reception in Singapore (just over a year ago now – how time flies!) so I thought it’d be nice to share some of our photos with you!
Starting off with a few small details at the wedding:
We had our reception at Rider’s Cafe, an intimate little cafe in an old colonial building (they had me at wood beam on the ceilings), surrounded by lush greenery and stables. We recycled a few things and ideas from our Canadian wedding, including thumbprint guestbook, straw flags and a photoline. We set the tables with glitter candleholders, fresh flowers arranged in glass jars (oh, those peonies!), chalkboard table numbers and little 3D crane place cards. And to top it all off, we made tape flags for the cupcakes and some tea favours for our guests.
More photos tomorrow!

inFor our dessert buffet, I made little tape flags for the cupcakes. They’re a neat little touch and really (really) easy to make! All you need toothpicks, washi tape and scissors. Simply cut a 3 inch piece of tape, position a toothpick in the middle on the sticky side, then fold the tape over the toothpick, sticking both sides in line. Then, cut out triangles at the end of your ‘flags’ and there you have it, snazzy little flags that can be used to decorate anything! You can even write names on them and use them as seating ‘cards’… so many possibilities!

inAs part of our favour boxes for the reception, we made some tea favours with several different kinds of organic tea. To make the tags, I cut little circles (yeah, some of them are a little wonky) out of these ombre seating cards (which we didn’t end up using as seating cards at all!). On one side, I wrote ‘drink some tea’ and used a cute heart stamp I had handy; on the other, I wrote out the type of tea. Then, we used some bakers twine to tie the tags to the tea bags. These particular tea bags had no strings attached but we also used tea bags that already had a tag attached; those are much easier since all you have to do is remove the old tag and attach the new one! Then, we put two different sachets of tea into each glassine bag and taped it up with some pretty polka dotted washi tape. And ta da! Cute little favours you can give away…. or instead of packaging them, just put those teabags in a jar and serve to guests at your event.

Can’t believe how quickly this weekend came and went. I spent it finishing up christmas cookies (even though they took forever to ice, those snowflakes were kind of worth it, they are pretty darn pretty) and finishing last minute touches to our reception list. We bought the loose flowers on Friday evening from an array of stores along Thompson; cut & arranged them on Saturday afternoon just hours before the reception (I also learnt that apparently, I cannot walk by a bunch of peonies without buying them). Oh, and the reception – it was lovely. The weather was cool, the venue was quaint, the food was good and the company was all around awesome (also, we are all sugared out after a massive dessert buffet – pictures in a little, I promise!). Now, back to catching up on holiday to dos!
